Former Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Archie Bradley signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins Wednesday.
The Diamondbacks selected Bradley with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Broken Arrow High School in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Bradley struggled early in his career as a starting pitcher, but found immediate success pitching out of the Diamondbacks' bullpen in 2017. That same season, he delivered one of the most iconic postseason moments in Diamondbacks franchise history, when he knocked in two runs on an RBI triple to extend Arizona's lead over the Colorado Rockies to 8-5, helping his team win the National League Wild Card game and advance to the NLDS.
From 2017 through 2020, Bradley posted a 2.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 152 ERA+ over 234.2 innings pitched and 221 games.
The Diamondbacks dealt Bradley to the Cincinnati Reds prior to the 2020 MLB trade deadline, in exchange for Josh VanMeter and Stuart Fairchild. The following January, Bradley signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. Prior to the start of the 2022 season, Bradley agreed to a one-year, $3.75 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
Bradley dealt with injuries over the past two seasons, including an oblique strain and a broken elbow. He posted a cumulative 4.00 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 69.2 innings pitched and 74 relief appearances.
Bradley, now 30, will get an opportunity now with the Marlins. The Marlins are off to a 6-7 start to begin the season, in third place of the National League East. Entering play Thursday, the Marlins are three games back of first place, behind the Atlanta Braves (9-4).
