Former Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly has emerged as a potential candidate to take over as manager for many open positions across MLB this winter.

The recent Blue Jays bench coach is circulating among possible names for a job and his experience with both LA and Miami is valuable according to The Athletic.

After a decade spent managing in Los Angeles and Miami, Mattingly walked away from the Marlins last season only to segue into a gig with Toronto. Mattingly never had a losing record in five seasons managing the Dodgers, where he was well-respected within his clubhouse. Mattingly understood, players have said, the challenges of succeeding at the big-league level, but never lorded his own outstanding playing career over his team.

Mattingly spent five seasons as Dodgers manager before the Dave Roberts era and was solid for the ball club while at Chavez Ravine.

During those five years, LA's former hitting coach took over for Joe Torre and wound up posting a winning record in all five seasons as the skipper for the Boys in Blue.

The legendary Yankees first baseman succeeded in his role with the Dodgers after three divisional crowns from 2013-2015.

Under new management, Mattingly fielded many competitive rosters full of stars but he never reached a World Series in LA thanks to his mismanaged pitching staffs.

Mattingly moved on to Miami where he oversaw a large-scale rebuild from the team's talented 2017 core.

The Marlins under Mattingly didn't quite have the winning record fans would desire but developed plenty of talent under his watchful eye.

Most notable among said stars is 2022 NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara who pitched his best season as a pro in Mattingly's last year with the club.

If LA's former manager chooses a bigger role than he had this season, plenty of teams would come knocking on his door to court him for their dugout.
