Former Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda improving but remains hospitalized

Fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers have something extra to be grateful for days ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Dodgers spokesman Steve Brener confirmed on Tuesday that former Los Angeles manager and Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda is improving but remains hospitalized in Southern California.

Lasorda was admitted to the hospital earlier this month due to what was originally referred to as a heart issue. He was hooked up to a ventilator and sedated until he was later able to rest comfortably. The Dodgers announced his hospitalization on Nov. 15.

It's believed his condition is not related to COVID-19.

The AP reports that Lasorda, who turned 93 years old in September, has taken online calls from former players and coaches while at the hospital. He attended the Dodgers' victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 6 of the World Series that clinched the club's first title since 1988, which Los Angeles won under Lasorda's guidance.

Lasorda also led the Dodgers to the championship in 1981 and to four National League pennants and eight division titles during his tenure as manager. He accumulated a record of 1,599-1,439 with the franchise and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997.
