He will not be managing in 2024.

Former New York Mets manager Buck Showalter has lost out on the Los Angeles Angels job to Ron Washington.

Showalter was a finalist for the managerial job in Los Angeles, but the club went with Washington instead.

Upon the arrival of president of baseball operations David Stearns, the Mets fired Showalter at the end of the 2023 regular season after two seasons in Queens.

In year-one, Showalter led the Mets to 101 wins, but they were eliminated in the Wild Card round. The second year didn't go as smoothly, as the Mets, despite having the highest payroll of all-time, won just 75 games and missed out on the postseason.

Showalter, 67, was hired in December of 2021, but lasted just two seasons. The Mets gave him the option of resigning or getting fired and he chose the latter.

Showalter won Manager of the Year in 2022, the fourth of his 20-year managing career.

While the skipper wanted to keep managing, there are now no remaining vacancies left in baseball for next season.

After pursuing Craig Counsell, the Mets wound up hiring New York Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza to succeed Showalter.
