Former Mets reliever Jeff Innis dies at 59

Over seven seasons at the MLB level, Innis accumulated a 3.05 ERA with 192 strikeouts and 122 runs allowed. He spent the entirety of his MLB career with the Mets, pitching 360 innings from 1987-93 before making a few stops in the minor leagues over the next two years in the San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins, and Philadelphia Phillies systems.

"He loved the fans and never shied away from any autographs," Mets VP of Media Relations Jay Horwitz wrote. "Jeff Innis was just a decent and humble guy who never made a big deal that he was a major league player. Jeff was proud of the fact that the Mets were the only team he played for in the big leagues."

Innis had reportedly been fighting cancer since 2017. His family set up a GoFundMe page in January to help transport him from a hospital in Houston to a hospice in Georgia where he could spend his final days surrounded by family. The campaign, which had a goal of $15,000, raised over $76,000.
