Former MLB shortstop Julio Lugo passes away at 45

Former MLB shortstop Julio Lugo, who played 12 seasons at the major league level, has passed away from a heart attack, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reported Monday. He was 45 years old.

Lugo played for multiple teams over his tenure in the big league, logging time with the seven teams since entering the league in 2000. His longest stints included stays with the Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays, and Boston Red Sox, with whom he won a World Series in 2007.

He ended his career slashing .269/.333/.384 with 80 home runs, 475 RBI, 198 stolen bases, and 688 runs scored.
