An old friend has been cut from the 40 man roster by the Tampa Bay Rays. Former Padres reliever Javier Guerra was designated for assignment this week after spending about a season and half in Tampa.

The Rays reported the transaction on Twitter on Wednesday.

Guerra made his MLB debut with the Padres in 2019 after coming to the club along with Manuel Margot, Logan Allen, and Carlos Asuaje in the 2015 trade that sent Craig Kimbrel away from San Diego to the Boston Red Sox. He pitched in parts of 4 seasons for the Friars, posting an 8.46 ERA over 27 appearances.

Last season, he was placed on waivers and claimed by the Rays where he pitched decently for 17 games (3.38 ERA, 19.1 IP). He was traded by the Rays to the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason then sent back to the Rays on April 29th this year before being DFA'd on Wednesday.

Who knows what's next for Guerra's wild ride. The Padres could use an arm in the bullpen but, ideally, that arm would be on the more reliable side.
