A former Philadelphia Phillies infielder signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

MLB.com reported that Brad Miller, who played for the Phillies in 2019 and 2021, signed a minor-league deal with the team with an invitation to Major League spring training, giving the Padres some depth as they explore their options for Opening Day.

Miller was most recently with the Texas Rangers in 2022-23, with his tenure culminating with his first World Series ring last season.

Miller struggled with injuries last season and only played in 27 games with a .214 batting average. A left hamstring injury ended his season in September when the Rangers moved him to the 60-day injured list.

He was allowed to hit free agency in November.

Miller found his way to Philadelphia in 2019 after he was designated for assignment by Cleveland in April and he opted for free agency after clearing waivers. He joined the Yankees briefly in the minors before he was traded to Philadelphia in June for cash considerations. He batted a robust .263 with 21 home runs and 21 RBI in 66 games.

Miller's two home runs in the final game of the season made him the first player in franchise history to record three multi-home run games in a nine-game span.

Miller signed with St. Louis in 2020 and returned to the Phillies in 2021 on a one-year, $5 million deal. During the season he hit his 100th career home run, but he batted .221 and became a free agent after the season.

Miller has also played for Tampa Bay, Seattle and Milwaukee in his 11-year career. He had his best season with the Rays in 2016, where he hit a career-high 30 home runs and drove in a career-high 81 RBI.
