This morning, the Chicago White Sox announced that Pedro Grifol, who had recently served as the bench coach for the Kansas City Royals, would be taking over for Tony La Russa as the team’s new manager.

Carlos Mendoza, the New York Yankees bench coach, had been a finalist along with Grifol, but the White Sox ultimately chose to go with Grifol as their new skipper.

Grifol spent 10 years in the Royals’ organization after having spent 12 years in the Seattle Mariners’ organization.

On Twitter, former MLB player Cody Decker was asked to give his thoughts on the White Sox hiring of Grifol.

Decker had nothing but positive things to say about Grifol.

What Grifol Brings To The White Sox

Having briefly played under Grifol, Decker certainly understands what he brings to a team and to a clubhouse.

Decker went on to talk about his time playing under Grifol and stated that he believed Grifol was meant to be a Major League manager.

Grifol has also been considered for managerial openings in the past, as Decker alluded to.

But Decker seems pretty excited for Grifol and believes that he can bring a lot to the table for the White Sox.

Chicago finished at .500 this year under La Russa and later bench coach Miguel Cairo on the heels of a 93-win season in 2021 that earned them an AL Central title.

La Russa had announced that he would not be returning after stepping aside briefly to address some lingering health issues.

And so, Grifol will be his replacement.
