After spending a few years with the Texas Rangers, infielder Brad Miller has signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres.

Per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com on social media:

Some news: The Padres have signed longtime infielder Brad Miller to a Minor League deal with an invite to big league camp. A lefty hitter, he's expected to vie for a bench spot.

The 34-year-old Miller has spent parts of 11 years in the big leagues with the Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Guardians, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and Rangers.

He came up with Seattle in 2013 at the age of 23 and was supposed to be part of a young infield nucleus that included guys like Dustin Ackley, Kyle Seager and Nick Franklin, but it didn't really work out for anyone but Seager.

Lifetime, Miller is a .236 hitter with 123 homers and 405 RBI. His best season came in 2016 when he hit 30 homers for Tampa Bay. He also posted a 20 homer season in 2021 for Philadelphia.

As for his time with Seattle, he hit 29 homers over three years and hit .248. With the Padres, he could provide them valuable versatility if he's able to make the roster. He has spent time at each position in his career, with the exception of catcher. Miller has spent the most time at shortstop, followed by second base.

San Diego will have Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts manning those positions in a starting capacity, and also has Jake Cronenworth in the infield.
