It's been a dreadful year overall for Pollock, who has hit just .165 this season across 133 at-bats. He started the year in Seattle but was traded near the trade deadline to the Giants. He played just five games for the Giants before getting hurt with oblique problems.

He has five home runs and 15 RBI this year.

Part of the problem for Pollock in Seattle this season was the lack of consistent playing time. Signed in the offseason to be a right-handed complement to Jarred Kelenic, he never really got to embrace that role because Kelenic played well enough to play every day, limiting the opportunities.

Pollock made the All-Star team back in 2015 and is in his 12th year in the big leagues with the Diamondbacks, Dodgers, White Sox, Mariners and Giants. He's a lifetime .273 hitter with 145 home runs and 485 RBIs. He's also stolen 122 career bases and posted an on-base percentage of .328.

Given his struggles this year, it's hard to envision someone giving him a job for the rest of the season. He also wouldn't be eligible for a playoff spot on a contender because he wasn't on a roster Sept. 1.

He'll be a free agent in the offseason.
