Former top prospect ejected from Triple-A game for 'sticky substance'

Former top pitching prospect Dylan Bundy was caught using a foreign substance and ejected from Wednesday's Triple-A contest between the Syracuse Mets and the Norfolk Tides.

During an umpire check in the third inning, a "sticky substance" was found in Bundy's glove.

A former fourth-overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2011 MLB Draft, Bundy was once a highly regarded prospect named alongside the likes of superstars Manny Machado, Mike Trout and Bryce Harper.

However, since making his Major League debut in 2012, Bundy has yet to measure up to his high draft standing.

After going 23-15 over his first two seasons starting for the Orioles, things have gone progressively downhill for Bundy. Following five seasons in Baltimore, the Orioles traded Bundy in 2019 to the Los Angeles Angels, where he spent two campaigns before joining the Minnesota Twins as a free agent last season. In 2022, his only season with the Twins, Bundy went 8-8 with a 4.89 ERA in 29 starts.

The 30-year-old signed with the New York Mets ahead of the 2023 season but has spent the entire year in Triple-A, where he's trying to rejuvenate his career.

Entering Wednesday, Bundy was 0-1 with a 10.64 ERA in five starts with Syracuse.

Meanwhile, as Bundy was getting the boot in Norfolk, one of the players traded for him four seasons ago, Kyle Bradish, was thriving on the hill for the Orioles, fittingly against the Angels.

On Wednesday, Bradish allowed only one earned run off four hits through 6.2 innings, improving to 2-1.
