Will Buck Showalter return as New York Mets manager in 2024? We do not know for sure, but one of his star players was quick to weigh in on the topic.

Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor made clear that he wants Showalter to return in 2024, even after a hugely disappointing 2023 campaign.

“The guy has been here two years and he won Manager of the Year one of them,” Lindor said, via Mike Puma of the New York Post. “One year that didn’t go as planned. He’s doing great. I don’t even think it should be a question.”

Lindor added that he would share that opinion with new team president David Stearns if asked.

There is no real clarity on Showalter’s future. The Mets opened the season with World Series aspirations but are just 70-81 and out of the playoff picture. However, as Lindor noted, they were excellent in 2022 before a postseason flame-out and won NL Manager of the Year.

It is worth noting that there is one manager with a strong connection to Stearns who could become available this winter, which may not help Showalter’s case.
