San Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin provided us with an update on outfielder Adam Engel, which isn't a good one.

Melvin told 97.3 The Fan that the outfielder will not be on the Opening Day roster due to the hamstring injury he's been dealing with.

Engel moved to the injured list two days ago and dealt with a calf strain at the start of spring training. The 31-year-old has suffered from hamstring problems throughout his career. Currently, there is no timetable for his return, but he is sure to get some play time due to Fernando Tatis Jr suspension.

This will be Engel's first season in gold and brown after he spent the past six seasons in the south side of Chicago with the White Sox.

In his career, Engel is a career .225 batter, has collected 30 home runs, 123 RBIs, 47 stolen bases, 318 hits, and an OPS of .631 in over 500 games and 1413 ABs.

The most games he's played in a single season was 143 in 2018, and he didn't reach 100 games played until last season with 119 games. Injuries have been the cause of his missed games, and he's not off to a good start with the Friars.

Hopefully, this is temporary for him, and he will get a chance to show what he can bring to the Padres.
