Bad news out of Padres camp as the club is primed to lose right-hander reliever Reiss Knehr to season ending Tommy John surgery.

Kevin Acee was the first to report that the surgery was imminent in a recent edition of his Padres Notes column.

Knehr has spent parts of the last three seasons on and off the active roster for San Diego. He owns a 1-3 record with a 5.96 ERA over 21 games (7 starts) since 2021. His last appearance came this season came with the Padres in Pittsburgh where he allowed 5 runs in 2 innings of reliever and never looked quite right on the mound.

The injury and surgery will keep him out for the entirety of the 2024 season.

It's a tough blow for the 20th round draft pick out of Fordham. He's never really had a true shot at big league time for the Padres since making his debut in 2021. However, when he has pitched, it's often been a struggle for the hurler.

He'll be 28 years old by the time spring training 2025 rolls around.
