We have a trade to announce involving the San Diego Padres...

The Padres traded catcher Kevin Plawecki to the Texas Rangers on Friday, sending the veteran backstop to his sixth organization in five years.

The 32-year-old wasn't on the Padres 40-man roster, so it's not guaranteed that he'll immediately go to the big leagues with Texas, but he was performing relatively well this season.

Across 33 games with the Friars' Triple-A affiliate, Plawecki was slashing .276/.333/.439 with three home runs and 21 RBI, but he didn't figure to see any playing time in San Diego.

Rangers' All-Star catcher Jonah Heim is slated to miss at least two to three weeks with a wrist strain, opening up the need for another catcher.

No, this trade doesn't involve Josh Hader or Blake Snell -- who are rumored to be dealt before the August 1 trade deadline, but it's a trade nonetheless for a franchise who's been quiet leading up to the trade period closing.

Time will tell if the Padres sell or buy at the deadline, but the debate rages on nonetheless for one of MLB's most disappointing teams.

The Padres are six and a half games out of the last playoff spot, a shocking position for a team laden with stars to be in.

The team still has some time to figure out which direction to take, but with just four days remaining until the deadline strikes early next week, time is starting to run short for the Padres to come up with an answer.
