The Chicago White Sox are sinking in the AL Central standings and are treading very close to rock bottom.

They had a chance to gain some significant ground on the red-hot Cleveland Guardians.

Unfortunately, they were swept and instead of gaining ground, they have fallen to seven games back of first.

The Guardians now have a magic number of six to eliminate them from division title contention.

Gavin Sheets spoke to the media following the South Siders’ 4-2 loss to Cleveland and shed some light on what has gone wrong for the team all season long.

Sheets had this to say.

Sheets Offers Honest Take On White Sox

That’s about as accurate of an assessment as you’re going to get.

It’s been a disappointing year for the South Siders.

After a 93-win season and a division title in 2021, they were heavily favored to take home the AL Central title again.

That hasn’t worked out to this point.

While they aren’t mathematically eliminated yet, the clock is ticking, and they’ll need to go on a crazy run in order to repeat as AL Central champs.

They’ll also need the Guardians to go on a slide.

These are two clubs headed in opposite directions right now.

The Guardians could have the AL Central locked up by the end of the day on Sunday.

Things aren’t looking that much better in the Wild Card race either for the White Sox.

At 76-74, they sit 6.5 games back of the Seattle Mariners for the third and final spot.

The time is now for the White Sox to get going.

Sheets hit the nail on the head with his postgame comments.

It wasn’t just this series against the Guardians.

It’s been their lack of consistency all season long.
