Giants All-Star catcher Buster Posey day-to-day with knee injury

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was removed from Tuesday's 8-0 win over the New York Mets with left knee discomfort in the fourth inning.

Backup catcher Curt Casali replaced Posey an inning later.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler said after the game that Posey is considered day-to-day, according to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

Posey previously landed on the injured list earlier this year with a left thumb contusion, which forced him to miss the All-Star Game. His current knee issue isn't considered to be serious, but if he misses time, the Giants could call up Chadwick Tromp from Triple-A Sacramento.

Top catching prospect Joey Bart is also on San Francisco's roster, but he has been on the injured list since earlier this month with a quad injury.

Posey is in the midst of a resurgent season, hitting .314/.408/.517 with 15 home runs and 39 RBI in 84 games. He earned his first All-Star selection since 2018, his seventh overall.

In addition to Posey, shortstop Brandon Crawford is also considered day-to-day with lower back tightness. Crawford felt back tightness before Tuesday's game and continued to feel sore while throwing and running.

Donovan Solano entered to pinch-hit for Crawford in the seventh inning and stayed in the game at shortstop for the final three innings.

The Giants are first in the National League West with an 81-44 record, 2.5 games ahead of the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers. San Francisco has two more games against the Mets before facing the Atlanta Braves this weekend.
