Giants postpone Carlos Correa introductory press conference due to medical concern

Baseball fans in the Bay Area will have to wait a bit longer until they can potentially see Carlos Correa slip on a San Francisco Giants uniform.

The concerning news comes after it was reported last week that Correa and the Giants had agreed to a monster 13-year, $350 million contract. In Ronald Blum's AP report, he wrote that the deal is subject to a successful physical.

Blum added that Correa has been placed on the injured list (IL) seven times across his eight-season career. He finished the 2022 season with 22 home runs, 64 RBIs, and a .291/.366/.467 slash line over 522 at-bats covering 136 games.

With six seasons of at least 20 home runs and a career .279/.357.479 slash line, Correa is one of the best offensive shortstops in baseball. The two-time All-Star also has a well-above-average glove, earning a 2021 Gold Glove award and leading all AL shortstops in fielding percentage (.983) and defensive WAR (2.9) in 2022.

Correa was selected by the Houston Astros with the first overall pick in the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft, played seven seasons with the team, won the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year award, and formed a dominant middle infield with former MVP second baseman Jose Altuve during his time with the franchise. Correa signed a three-year, $105.3 million contract with the Minnesota Twins in March but opted out of the final two seasons of the deal in November to become a free agent.
