The SF Giants recalled outfielder Heliot Ramos ( Giants Top 30 Prospect ) from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, placing left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. With the Giants set to face some left-handed pitching, Ramos will give manager Gabe Kapler another right-handed bat to deploy. Ramos' return to the majors continues the organization's shift toward young players since their recent collapse in the standings.

Ramos has gone between Triple-A and MLB quite a bit this season but has managed his first prolonged success in the upper minors of his career. He has also had some promising flashes in the majors. Ramos had several big hits with the team in August and has hit .276/.348/.629 with nine doubles, two triples, and eight home runs in 119 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers across all levels this season. Overall, he has posted a .300/.382/.546 triple-slash with 29 extra-base hits in 62 Triple-A games this year, easily his best performance in the minors since at least 2019.

The move effectively ends Alexander's season since he will not be eligible to be activated until the first round of the postseason, which has very little chance of featuring the Giants. Alexander is slated to become a free agent this season and seems like a strong candidate to land elsewhere. The Santa Rosa, California native will finish this season with a 4.66 ERA (3.26 FIP), 31 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 48.1 innings pitched (55 appearances). Since joining the Giants last year, Alexander has managed a 3.70 ERA (3.16 FIP) in 72 appearances.
