The Los Angeles Angels signing of veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks gives them plenty of depth at the position. But it has also caused some potential issues, as well.

The signing of Hicks means a potential log jam on the Angels' roster in the outfield. While he does provide depth, the Halos may elect to move one of their other options.

They already have Mike Trout, Jo Adell, Taylor Ward and Mickey Moniak on the team. Adding Hicks could prove to be too many guys at one position.

However, Angels general manager Perry Minasian said that the team is keeping their options open. He wouldn't rule out the organization having five outfielders on the roster.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out,” Minasian said. “They're gonna have opportunities to play, and obviously Spring Training is gonna be important. As currently constructed we still have room for everyone.”

Adell is the only outfielder on the fringe of a roster spot at this point, and it sounds like he might be judged by his spring performances.

“If anyone has watched us over the last few years, things change by the day,” Minasian said. “So for us, it's to acquire as many quality players as we can to get as many different options as you can. Things have a funny way of sorting themselves out over the course of spring.”

It's good for the team to keep their options open, as it gives them flexibility to build out the roster. The Halos want to get back to being competitive next season, and the best way to do so is by having too much talent, which makes roster decisions tough.

The Angels are starting to make some noise after a quiet start to the offseason, and will look to see what else they can add during the rest of the winter.
