The Guardians' front office has started off the month of February with quite a bit of activity. They've already signed two pitchers to Minor League deals for 2023 and now they've pulled off a trade with an in-state rival.

On Wednesday evening, the team announced that they had traded Will Benson to the Cincinnati Reds for outfield prospect Justin Boyd and a player to be named later.

Benson appeared in 28 games for the Guardians in 2022 and had a batting average of .182 and .450 OPS. The numbers are not fantastic, but he never received consistent playing time at the Big League level.

Boyd appeared with two teams during the 2022 season and combined to hit .203 with a .547 OPS. He was the Reds' second-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Oregon State. In College, Boyd hit a Pac-12 best of .373 and had 24 steals.
