Nolan Jones is headed back down to Triple-A Columbus for the time being.
The Cleveland Guardians called Jones up to join the team’s youth movement back in early July.
He has played 30 games for the Guardians this season, hitting .244 with two home runs and 13 RBI.
He had a .681 OPS.
But for now, Jones is headed back down to the minors.
The Guardians will be calling up outfielder Richie Palacios, who has played in 39 games this year for the Guardians.
In 84 at-bats, Palacios is hitting .250 with no homers and 10 RBI.
Guardians Prospective, a Twitter page covering the Guardians’ farm system, reported the news of the roster moves.
Guardians Send Jones To Columbus
Jones had a hot start to his big-league career, hitting his first career home run against the Kansas City Royals in just his first series.
But it appears that for now, the Guardians want to give him a chance to grow as a player.
So, he’ll be sent down to Triple-A to get some more reps in and prepare for his eventual return to the big leagues.
Sometimes, a player just needs a little more time to learn and grow.
This will give Jones that time to fix any issues and ultimately become the player that the Guardians expect he will become in the future.
In the minors this year, he is hitting .311 with three home runs and 25 RBI.
Perhaps the Guardians are thinking that going back down to the minors will help Jones get his stroke back.
Jones has struggled some since his hot start.
The Guardians will need their young stars to continue to produce if they plan on capturing their first AL Central title since 2018.
We’ll see how Jones responds in Triple-A and if he can get his stroke back.
