It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Stephen Vogt was a serious candidate for the Cleveland Guardians managerial position, and today, the hire became official.

Vogt spent part of the 2021 season with the Braves, helping them win their first World Series since 1995. He didn’t get any burn in the postseason, but his veteran presence was critical to the team’s turnaround. He also had a couple of clutch hits during the regular season while Travis d’Arnaud was on the Injured List.

Even as a player, Vogt was almost like a team’s second manager, so it’s no surprise he’s getting an opportunity just a year removed from retirement. At 39-years-old, he’ll be the second youngest manager in baseball. Only Oliver Marmol of the Cardinals is younger at 35 years of age.
