Guardians lock down outfielder Myles Straw with five-year extension
Less than a year after acquiring Myles Straw in a trade with the Houston Astros, the Cleveland Guardians are making sure the center fielder is staying long-term.
On Saturday, the team announced it signed Straw to a five-year, $25 million extension with club options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. In an interview with Bally Sports, Straw raved about the Guardians organization and said his optimism about the team's future was the reason he signed the deal.
Straw, 27, made his MLB debut with the Astros during the 2018 season, three years after he was drafted by the team in the 12th round in 2015. Last season, Houston traded Straw to Cleveland in a deal that sent pitcher Phil Maton and minor league prospect Yainer Diaz to the Astros.
In the Guardians' first game of the 2022 season on Thursday, Straw recorded two hits, a walk and a stolen base in a 3-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals.
Earlier this week, Cleveland dished out five-year extensions to 24-year-old pitcher Emmanuel Clase and 29-year-old third baseman Jose Ramirez.
