Guardians remove 'Indians' from marquee, unveil merchandise at team shop

The final hours of the Cleveland Indians' existence are ticking down.

Cleveland's MLB team confirmed Wednesday it will officially rebrand as the Cleveland Guardians on Friday and subsequently continued that ongoing process by removing the scripted "Indians" logo from the front marquee at Progressive Field, home of the club.

The to-be Guardians began the removal of a similar "Indians" logo from their main scoreboard back on Nov. 2 even though they were facing a legal challenge previously filed by a roller derby team known as the Cleveland Guardians since 2013. Cleveland's baseball Guardians announced the resolution of that lawsuit on Tuesday and said both organizations will use the name moving forward.

Additionally, the Guardians unveiled a full assortment of merchandise inside their team shop.

The team shop at Progressive Field is opening at 9 a.m. ET Friday, and fans will also be able to buy fresh Guardians gear at MLBshop.com at that same time, per Mandy Bell of the club's website. A gift will be presented to the first 50 shoppers at the in-person store, and customers at Progressive Field will be eligible for raffle prizes.

Other outlets located throughout Northeast Ohio will begin selling MLB Guardians merchandise Tuesday (Nov. 23).
