As we reach Thanksgiving and the holiday season, it’s always a great reminder about what we have that others do not. I’ll be honest; I would take my full time paying job along with grabbing something to eat and heading home for granted. I would get internally greedy, but 2020 changed a whole new outlook. Some families continue to struggle with putting food on the table for themselves and their kids and may not be able to afford getting their kids something for Christmas. Well, Rangers’ catcher Jose Trevino has that covered.

In December, Jose is making sure kids have a happy holiday. First, Trevino is hosting a Toy Drive located at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark on Saturday, December 5th, sponsored by Line Drive. Attendees (between the ages of eight and eighteen) can register at 247LineDrive.com and then, on December 5th, bring two unwrapped toys as their access ticket. The camp will feature stations distanced around the field with drills at each station capping off a whiffle ball game. Registered participants are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. It’ll last from nine in the morning to two-thirty in the afternoon.

Next, Jose is hosting a comedy show at Brewster Street in Corpus Christi, TX, his hometown. The comedy show features Corpus Christi’s own Steve Trevino. The show is on Friday, December 18th at 7:00 pm, and tickets are available until an hour before the show, if seats are applicable. The show benefits the West Side Helping Hands, a youth center that helps kids ages 5-13 from Corpus Christi. The group provides academic enhancement, character formation, career opportunities, extra-curricular activities, and organized sports to the kids.

On Saturday, December 19th, Trevino is holding his fourth annual Toy Drive located at the West Side Helping Hands location in Corpus Christi. The drive lasts from six to eight in the evening. People can drop off toys and enter in a raffle for a chance to win Rangers’ memorabilia donated by Jose due to the 2020 circumstances. Also, anyone can go to the GoFundMe page and donate to help too.

Finally, Jose is active on Twitter and Instagram in giving giveaways to Rangers’ fans (with help from his former and current teammates). Trevino earned the honors of the 2020 Richard Durrett “Hardest Working Man” award, where his work on and off the field continues to go unnoticed. His 2020 season got cut short due to a wrist injury, but Jose is the front runner on the Texas Rangers catching depth chart. With the hard work Jose puts on and off the field, I can say with certainty that a Roberto Clemente Award is in Jose Trevino’s future.
