Miami Marlins relief pitcher A.J. Puk (35) Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

MLB News: The Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins are no strangers to playing close baseball games.  One incredible aspect of this is that both teams are winning a vast majority of these contests.  In fact if the season ended today the Marlins would have the highest winning percentage of all time (in the modern era, since 1900) and the Brewers second highest.

At the time of this publication the Marlins are 19-5 in one run games.  This equates to a .792 winning percentage.  Milwaukee is currently 14-4 with a .778 winning percentage.  Previously the 2016 Texas Rangers had the highest winning percentage in such games when they went 36-11 (.766).

MLB News: Can the Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins sustain their winning ways in one run games?

The Miami Marlins have been a pleasant surprise this year as they are currently second in the National League East and leading the Wild Card standings with a 48-34 record.  In addition to winning close games they have had a knack of coming from behind and winning this year.

Six different Marlins players have saves this year and A.J. Puk has the most (13).  They have an incredible starting pitching staff that keeps them in ball games, so they have a very realistic shot at continuing at their current pace.

Milwaukee does not have as good of a record this year from a total wins standpoint (43-38) but they are currently tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the National League Central division lead.  Similar to the Marlins they have good starting pitchers that keep them in games.

In the bullpen Devin Williams is their anchor.  He is arguably one of the best relievers in baseball and has just one blown save this year.  When he takes the hill with the lead it is essentially a lock that the Brew Crew will come away with a victory.  If Milwaukee can continue winning they too could keep their winning percentage in one run games up.

The 2023 MLB season is half way over.  It will be interesting to see how both of these teams perform in one run games the remainder of the year.
