In the first two games of four with the Atlanta Braves, the New York Mets saw both of their starting pitchers leave early with injuries.
On Monday, it was Carlos Carrasco who exited with left-side tightness. Tuesday night, Taijuan Walker left with back spasms. The Mets have since gotten some important updates on both.
Starting with Carrasco, the news given was certainly not ideal. He has a low-grade oblique strain and will miss up to a month. That being said, it still could have been worse.
The Mets designated Carrasco to the 15-day injured list. It leads to David Peterson and Trevor Williams both likely having to step up. Luckily, the Mets are not short on starting rotation depth with guys like Peterson, Williams, and Tylor Megill when he gets back.

Then, with Walker, an encouraging update was provided just yesterday. After leaving with back spasms, Walker underwent an MRI that showed no structural damage. Manager Buck Showalter stated that Sunday’s start for Walker is up in the air. Beyond that though, the Mets are hopeful Walker will be fine.
As the Mets gear up for an important stretch that includes series with the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and Los Angeles, the depth of this roster will be tested and needs to step up.
