The Baltimore Orioles made a controversial decision to have top prospect Jackson Holliday begin the 2024 season in the minor leagues. Now, just a couple weeks into the season, Baltimore decided he was ready for the show, calling him up to the MLB team.

In the video, Holliday is called into an office, where the camera is off-center and pointed at him to capture his reaction to the news that he’d made it to the majors. Within the heartwarming moment, Holliday is instructed to call his dad.

You can watch the video of Jackson Holliday getting his call-up to MLB, here:

Jackson Holliday is the son of Matt Holliday, an excellent MLB player in his own right. He spent 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, playing for four different teams. During that time, he was a seven-time All-Star and a four-time Silver Slugger who won the 2011 World Series. He’s also someone who made sure to raise his children around the game.

“So, for tomorrow, trying to get guys out early,” Jackson Holliday was told. “First, tonight. Tonight, I want you to call your dad. I want you to talk to him and I want you to thank him for all the times that he’s allowed you to come to the clubhouse, be on his pass list. You know, let you hit with the big boys. That’s pretty special and plays into a lot of what you’re about.

“The second thing I want you to tell him is that now it’s time for him to ask permission to be on Jackson Holliday’s pass list because you’re going to the big leagues.”

At that point in the video, a grin is on Holliday’s face and he repeats that it’s “awesome” before making sure to say he’s gonna call his dad.

A lot of fans expected Jackson Holliday to make Baltimore’s initial Opening Day roster. However, he didn’t in a case that many saw as an attempt by the organization to manipulate his service time. However, the team said they wanted to get him more work before calling him up. Apparently, he’s now ready.

Beyond a great and heartwarming video, Jackson Holliday is one of the top prospects in all of Major League Baseball, with him coming in as the top-ranked player on MLB Pipeline. He was the first overall draft pick in 2022 and chose to go after his dream of making it to the majors instead of going to Oklahoma State. Now, at 20-years old, he’s made it.

Jackson Holliday joins a Baltimore Orioles team with high expectations for the 2024 season. The Orioles won the AL East in 2023 and are looking to do that again, on the back of a very young and very talented roster. Holliday is joining that group, hoping to give Baltimore a surge.
