One of the more impactful players from this past season for the Dodgers came from one of the most unexpected players. Veteran outfielder Jason Heyward came onto the roster with a minor-league contract but worked his way up to becoming an almost everyday player.

His veteran leadership combined with his solid bat throughout the season helped the Dodgers navigate through some tough times this year. For the season, Heyward hit .269 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in. He was one of the more consistent players for this team all season, and he is now in line for a big contract this winter.

He also took a few of the younger players under his wing, namely rookie outfielder James Outman.

Outman has spoken about the impact that Heyward has made on him this season, and how appreciative he was of him. Now Heyward will enter free agency, and while he and the Dodgers have interest in a return, he may have priced himself out of the plans for LA.

“A pair of rival executives this week said they could see Heyward earning somewhere in the same range or higher than Peralta did last year (one year, $6.5 million with up to $8 million in incentives) but with a possibility of a multiyear deal. One rival executive guessed two years, $18 million.”

If Heyward does walk, he will remembered for his contributions to this team. LA would love to get him back for next year, but that remains to be seen. He will have strong interest across the league, and someone will offer him a big enough contract.

“Perhaps the Astros could be an option, should they let Brantley walk. The Mariners could use a left-handed bat. So could the Yankees or Blue Jays.”

It's possible we have seen the end of Heyward with the Dodgers, but there is always a chance that he felt comfortable enough in LA to return.
