Joe Girardi 'not worried' about job as Phillies continue to falter

Philadelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi claims he is not worried about losing his job even as the team comes off a winless series against the New York Mets and tumbles down the NL East standings.

"I don't worry about my job," Girardi said, via ESPN. "I've never worried about my job. I don't worry about my job. I've got to do my job. It's the business of being a manager. I don't worry about it."

Philadelphia is 21-27 so far on the season despite having the fourth-highest payroll in the league and boasting big names like Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber. They have lost 10 of their last 14 and are coming off a 2-5 road trip that contained two walk-off losses, including Sunday's series-ending loss at the hands of Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar.

The loss adds fuel to reports that the team is lacking energy due to heightened expectations. "I think it looks like we are not having fun because the expectations are really high," pitcher Kyle Gibson told The Philadelphia Enquirer. "Even when you win a game, it's easy to say, 'Great, we won today, but we're still 10 games off from where we want to be.' I think that's an attitude that has to be flipped."

Girardi is in the final year of a three-year managing deal. The Phillies are 131-139 since he took over as manager in 2020.
