Officially putting pen to paper, signing a one-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jordan Montgomery shared his eagerness to join the team and discussed his expected timeline for integration.
Montgomery, currently starting the season in Triple-A, expressed his aim to join the D-backs’ starting rotation on April 19th, coinciding with a forthcoming 10-game road trip commencing on the 18th against the San Francisco Giants.
Reflecting on his decision to sign with the Diamondbacks amidst interest from other teams, including the Red Sox offering higher contracts, Montgomery revealed his preference for a contender, making Arizona an appealing destination.
He cited the team’s “tight-knit group” and “winning culture,” observations gleaned from facing the D-backs in the World Series as a member of the Texas Rangers.
The 31-year-old lefty will make $25 million with the Diamondbacks this season if he makes at least 10 starts. According to The New York Post‘s Joel Sherman, Montgomery was originally asking for a long-term contract in the “Aaron Nola range,” which would have been a little north of $150 million for seven years.
