Josh Donaldson calls it a career, and a good one at that

Josh Donaldson is hanging up his cleats after a stellar 13-year career.

Donaldson, 38, had a prolific MLB career that saw him play for seven teams. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a catcher in the 2007 MLB Draft but was traded to the Oakland Athletics in July of 2008. He officially converted to third base in the spring of 2012 and that's when his pro career started to flourish.

He made his first All-Star appearance in 2014, hitting 98 RBI and 29 home runs that season with 93 runs scored, and that's when he became a perennial MVP candidate. He became an actual MVP after being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015.

He was named the 2015 AL MVP after he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, hitting .297 with 122 runs scored, 41 home runs and 123 RBI that season.

Donaldson was a bit more of a journeyman at the end of his career but he ultimately was a very prolific MLB player. He had stints with the Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees and most recently the Milwaukee Brewers.

He leaves the MLB with 279 career home runs, 1,310 hits, a career batting average of .261 and a career OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of .847.
