Jury finds former Angels staffer Eric Kay guilty in death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs

Former Los Angeles Angels communications director Eric Kay is facing a minimum sentence of 20 years in jail after a jury found him guilty of distributing fentanyl and causing the death of the team's former pitcher Tyler Skaggs, according to ESPN.

Skaggs was found dead in a hotel room in 2019, and a medical examiner later determined he asphyxiated on his vomit after ingesting fentanyl, oxycodone and alcohol. During the trial, prosecutors argued that no one other than Kay could've provided Skaggs with the drugs that led to his death on the night of June 30, 2019.

Pitchers Matt Harvey, Mike Morin and Cam Bedrosian and first baseman C.J. Cron all took the stand and testified that they too received drugs from Kay during their respective times playing for the Angels.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours Thursday before quickly reaching the guilty verdict. Sentencing for Kay is set for June 28.
