Kansas City Royals' slugging outfielder Hunter Renfroe is set to make his Cactus League debut on Wednesday, according to a report from Anne Rogers of MLB.com.

Per Rogers on social media:

Hunter Renfroe has been dealing with some lower back tightness, manager Matt Quatraro said, which is why he hasn’t appeared in a game yet. But Renfroe is participating in the workout today and is scheduled to play Wednesday. No concern about his availability, Quatraro said.

The 32-year-old Renfroe signed a two-year deal with the Royals this offseason after spending 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels and Cincinnati Reds.

He hit .233 last season with 20 homers and 60 RBI for both organizations. Lifetime, he's an eight-year veteran who has played with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox, Angels and Reds. Known for his great power and rocket throwing arm, Renfroe has hit at least 20 homers in six seasons (he hit eight in the COVID shortened 2020 season).

He has popped at least 30 homers in two separate seasons, including 2021 with the Red Sox.

Signing Renfroe was part of a concerted effort by the Royals to get more major league talent on the roster. In addition to him, they added infielder Adam Frazier, infielder Garrett Hampson and pitchers Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, Chris Stratton, Will Smith and John Schreiber.

Kansas City finished 56-106 a season ago and had the second-worst record in the entire American League. They were only ahead of the woeful Oakland Athletics.
