The entire baseball world is focused on the Emerald City this week. With Seattle hosting the 2023 MLB All-Star Game, it gives the league an excellent opportunity to celebrate one of its most exciting players of all time - Ken Griffey Jr.

"The Kid" radiated coolness with his backward hats, silky smooth swing, and wall-scaling catches. Griffey's signature sneaker line with Nike started in 1995 and transcended the sneaker world.

Just as MLB has spotlighted the Seattle Mariners legend, so has Nike. The 53-year-old prefers staying behind the camera rather than in front of it nowadays. However, Griffey did tease sneakerheads with what we hope is an upcoming retro release.

While shooting photographs, Griffey rocked a polo shirt, jeans, and a new pair of the Nike Air Griffey Max 2. The shoes featured the same light bone and jade design as the 'All-Star' colorway of his cleats that are available on the Nike website. Below is what fans need to know about the legendary kicks.

Nike Air Griffey Max 2

Griffey's second signature sneaker, the Nike Air Griffey Max 2, was released in 1997. The model was released in cleat and sneaker form while looking good no matter the situation.

The Nike Air Griffey Max 2 features a synthetic leather upper with unmistakable midfoot ribs for added structure. Nike branding appears on the lateral heel, toe box, and tongues. Meanwhile, the iconic Swingman logo on the heel completes the look.

Just as Griffey did the impossible on the field, his signature line was equally successful in what it accomplished in malls across America in the late 1990s. This baseball season has proven that the sport is as cool as ever, and there is no better ambassador than "Junior" himself.
