After being signed earlier in June, longtime MLB veteran Didi Gregorius has officially joined the Seattle Mariners organization.

Gregorious was signed to a minor league deal on June 8 but will be playing his first game with the organization on Friday.

Paul Braverman of the Tacoma Rainiers media relations team put the information out on Twitter:

Didi Gregorius has arrived in Tacoma, and will play second base and bat third tonight vs. Salt Lake (7:05 PT). Rights acquired by #Mariners from Laguna of Mexican League on June 8. He's one shy of 1,000 MLB hits.

He had 34 RBI and 11 HR (league lead) with a 1.208 OPS in 26 games in the Mexican League.

Before playing in Mexico, he represented the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the World Baseball Classic.

He last played on a big league diamond with the 2022 Philadelphia Phillies, playing 63 games.

The Mariners enter play at 38-41 and with fading playoff hopes. Gregorius's signing could help the big league team jettison Kolten Wong from second base, or it could end up just being another ho-hum move in a ho-hum season.

The Mariners, who have lost six of their last nine games, will open up a series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night in Seattle. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET as Shane McClanahan pitches against Bryce Miller.

But the organization will also have an eye on Tacoma....
