The Los Angeles Angels shocked the baseball world two weeks ago when they promoted Nolan Schanuel to the big leagues just weeks after selecting him in the MLB Draft.

Most people felt that Schanuel, like all young players, would need more minor league at-bats and more professional seasoning before coming to the big leagues. However, he's proven the doubters wrong and the Angels right thus far.

Though the Angels lost 12-7 on Tuesday night to the Philadelphia Phillies, Schanuel went 2-for-5, giving him a nine-game hit streak to start his career.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Nolan Schanuel has a hit 9 straight games to begin his career. That ties David Eckstein in 2001 for the longest streak to start a career in Angels franchise history.

Eckstein is a beloved player in Angels history, so to be alongside him is a cool feat for Schanuel, who is now hitting .344. He still is yet to hit his first home run and has two RBI. He's been hitting in the leadoff spot recently, in front of Shohei Ohtani.

After the loss, the Angels are 63-70 and appear to be giving up on the season. They are reportedly putting several key veterans on waivers including Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Randal Grichuk and Matt Moore.

This is reportedly part of a cost-saving effort that can bring the Angels below the CBT threshold.

The Angels and Phillies will play again on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. ET as Reid Detmers (LAA) pitches against Christopher Sanchez (PHI).
