In 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers are poised to leave an indelible mark on baseball history.

With a roster brimming with talent, including former MVPs Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, expectations were high for record-breaking performances. However, what caught many by surprise was their stumble in a recent game.

The pitching staff, typically a pillar of strength, veered into historically erratic territory. While occasional walks are par for the course, issuing 14 in a single game is far from ideal.

This lapse, which hadn’t plagued the Dodgers in over six decades, notably befell starting pitcher James Paxton, who accounted for eight of those walks, tallying just one strikeout.

Despite this uncharacteristic display, the San Diego Padres capitalized on the Dodgers’ miscues, clinching a 6-3 victory.

Each Dodgers hurler, from Paxton to J.P. Feyereisen, Alex Vesia, Ryan Brasier, and Nick Ramirez, contributed to the walk tally, with not a single pitcher avoiding conceding at least one free pass.

Considering the Dodgers’ lofty aspirations for a World Series title, such lapses are cause for concern. While managing to limit the Padres to six runs amidst the barrage of walks may seem like a minor triumph, it underscores the need for consistency and precision from every facet of the team.

In pursuit of their championship dreams, the Los Angeles Dodgers cannot afford to walk away crucial games.
