The New York Yankees have not been playing well in the month of August.

They’ve watched their lead in the American League East shrink from 16 games to eight games in a matter of weeks.

Even after picking up Frankie Montas at the trade deadline, they haven’t found their groove.

However, this does not mean that the Montas deal has not panned out.

In fact, it’s worked out quite well in some regards.

Reliever Lou Trivino came to New York from the Oakland Athletics in that trade and has been pitching quite well out of their bullpen, having allowed just one earned run over nine innings and 11 outings as a member of the Yankees.

Trivino’s Resurgence

You can’t say that this trade has not worked out.

While Montas hasn’t been his usual self, Trivino has adjusted to New York just fine.

Just one earned run over nine innings is pretty solid and it all adds up to a 1.00 ERA since joining the Yankees.

Though his stats for the season aren’t great (he’s 2-7 with a 5.27 ERA), he’s been pretty solid for the Yankees and has given their bullpen a much-needed boost with guys such as Michael King, Chad Green, and Clay Holmes out and Aroldis Chapman not pitching up to his potential.

New York needed arms at the trade deadline, and Trivino has been one of the more reliable ones since being acquired.

He earned the win yesterday for the Yankees, going 2.1 innings without allowing a run, walking just one batter and striking out another.

This part of the deal has panned out just fine for the Bronx Bombers and he helped them pull of a win against a division rival in a game they desperately needed.
