Luis Arraez hits for the first cycle in Miami Marlins history
Luis Arraez is wasting little time making an impact in Miami. Arraez added himself to the franchise record books on Tuesday, becoming the first player in franchise history to hit for the cycle.
Arraez doubled in the first, lined out in the second, tripled in the sixth, and homered in the seventh. With two outs and two runners on in the eighth Arraez stepped to the plate again and singled to left field, completing the cycle.
After playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, Arraez has gotten off to a quick start to the 2023 season. Through 11 games he's batting .500/.571/.556, leading the league with 18 hits.
Miami acquired Arraez in a four-player deal with Minnesota in January. The Twins received a pair of prospects in the deal along with right-hander Pablo Lopez, who has also started the season strong. allowing just a single earned run in his first two starts. It's early but it appears to be a trade that benefited both teams.
The Marlins knew they were adding an impact bat in Arraez. The 26-year-old (his birthday was on Sunday) won the AL batting title last season with a .316/.375/.420 line. He also took home a Silver Slugger and received MVP votes.
