Luis Castillo to make Mariners debut vs. Yankees on Wednesday

Two-time All-Star Luis Castillo officially reported to the Seattle Mariners on Monday, and he will get his first start for the AL West club on the road this Wednesday when it faces the Yankees in New York.

Wednesday's game won't be the first time Castillo has faced the Yankees this season. He went seven innings strong with eight strikeouts and only gave up two hits and one earned run as Cincinnati went on to defeat New York 7-6.

Seattle made headlines on Friday when they acquired the 29-year-old starter from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for four minor league players. Castillo is having a career season thus far, going 4-4 through 14 starts with a 2.86 ERA through 85.0 innings pitched, tallying 90 strikeouts and 28 walks while allowing just 27 earned runs. Through four starts in the month of July, the right-hander had a 1.93 ERA with 30 strikeouts, allowing just seven walks and six earned runs through 28.0 innings pitched.

Castillo is certainly a nice addition for Seattle, which currently sits in the second wild card spot in the AL and is looking to finish the year off strong. The move could also benefit Castillo, who is joining a playoff-contending team from a Reds squad that has played well under .500 ball all season.
