Just days after being awarded the AL Player of the Week award for his play to close the month of August, one of the best Angel bats could be sidelined indefinitely from a freak accident.

Exiting with a biceps strain after taking a swing in the on-deck circle, manager Phil Nevin said Luis Rengifo's injury is one that won't quickly heal from initial reports.

“It doesn’t look good,” Manager Phil Nevin said of Rengifo’s injury. “I’m sick for him. Hopefully we get good news tomorrow.”

The infielder's dominating finish last month garnered him a major award, but now he's staring at a prolonged recovery which has been all too common for the 2023 Halos.

Adding to an already long enough list of Angels on the shelf, Rengifo's absence to an increasingly thin lineup by the day could officially spell the end of Anaheim's season if it wasn't already the case.

One of the most consistent Angels all season among many of his superstar teammates being injured or not playing up to par, Rengifo's odd exit is just a perfect encapsulation of the team's season from hell.

Seemingly everything has gone wrong at the big A this season as stars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani have been injured at various points in the year, unable to contribute to the team's divisional race to their fullest capabilities.

Off the field, the Halos continue to deal with financial meddling from owner Arte Moreno as the waiver wire was activated after the team's attempts to buy at the deadline failed miserably.

Even with injuries, both Trout and Ohtani can say that they've tried to help the team in 2023, a comment that not everyone can truly make for this year's roster.

Though we only hope Rengifo is back with the team soon, it'd be understandable if the Angels shut him down for the year given their place in the Wild Card race.
