The Colorado Rockies enter play on Sunday in last place in the National League West (35-58) and with the worst record in the National League, but it's not all bad news.

The team is reportedly inching towards getting back once-heralded prospect Brendan Rodgers from the injured list. He has missed the entire season and was feared out for the whole year with a shoulder problem.

The following update on his progress comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Rodgers (shoulder) will head out to High-A Spokane on Monday to begin a rehab assignment, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

ANALYSIS
At one point, Rodgers' injury was feared to be season-ending, but he now appears to be on the verge of a return to live action. Rodgers will start out at the High-A level, and given the extended absence, he figures to take close to the full 20 days on rehab. While he took a bit of a step backward last season, Rodgers is a .294/.349/.442 career hitter at home in Coors Field.

That's big news for the Rockies, who are looking to take any positives that they can out of this season.

The 26-year-old is a lifetime .266 hitter with 28 home runs and 123 RBI. He's supposed to be a major part of the Rockies rebuild, as he's under team control until 2026.

He's also won a Gold Glove award.

The Rockies will take on the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from Coors Field is slated for 3:10 p.m. ET.

Chase Anderson pitches in this one for the Rockies.
