Minnesota Twins former second baseman Jorge Polanco (11) Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Twins have been trying to shop former All-Star second baseman Jorge Polanco this offseason, and it looks like they have finally found a taker.

The Mariners acquired Polanco in a trade with the Twins on Monday; Seattle is sending four players to Minnesota in return.

Polanco initially signed with the Twins as a 16-year-old and made it to the majors in 2014. His first full season came when he played 133 games in 2017. Though he began his MLB career as a shortstop, Polanco switched to second base in 2021. He has also played third base and served as a designated hitter on occasion. For his career, Polanco has batted .269 with a .780 OPS.

MLB starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani and relief pitcher Justin Topa are headed to the Twins in the trade. Prospects Gabriel Gonzalez (OF) and Darren Bowen (RHP) are also a part of the deal.

Polanco is set to make $10.5 million this season and has a $12 million option for 2025. DeSclafani, whom the Mariners acquired when they sent Robbie Ray to San Francisco on Jan. 5, is making $12 million this season.

The acquisitions of Polanco and Mitch Haniger show the Mariners are trying to add some pop to their lineup in 2024.
