Mariners activate OF Kyle Lewis off 10-day IL

On Tuesday, the Seattle Mariners activated outfielder Kyle Lewis off the 10-day injured list.

Lewis hasn't been in the Mariners' lineup since May 31 of last season, missing most of the year after surgery to repair a torn meniscus suffered in June

In 36 games last season, Lewis slashed .246/.333/.392, with five home runs and 11 RBI.

A first-round pick by the Mariners in 2016, Lewis made his major league debut in 2019, playing in 18 games.

Lewis won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2020. In 58 games, he hit .262/.364/.437, finishing with 11 home runs and 28 RBI.

Over three seasons in Seattle, Lewis has batted .258/.343/.450, with 22 home runs and 52 RBI in 112 games.

The Mariners hope Lewis boosts the DH spot in the lineup; Seattle's designated hitters are hitting .155/.257/.324 this season.

To make room for Lewis on the roster, the Mariners released outfielder Steven Souza Jr.

Souza, 33, signed with the Mariners in March but played only six games this season, finishing with three hits and an RBI in 19 plate appearances.
