Seattle Mariners pitcher Hector Santiago is now facing a 10-game suspension from Major League Baseball after he was ejected in the fifth inning of Sunday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
Santiago’s ejection came after umpires allegedly found some foreign substance in the pitcher’s glove, and they were forced to remove the veteran from the game and keep said glove as evidence.

MLB rules clearly state that a first offender faces a 10-game suspension after the league created a whole slew of new rules this season to combat pitchers using foreign substances to create a competitive advantage. It has been a pretty drama-filled situation between MLB and players thus far.
As for Santiago, he looked to be a bit amused by the situation. Whether that remains the case if his checking account is affected remains to be seen.
Santiago, 33, is a one-time All-Star. Heading into Sunday’s outing against the White Sox, he was pitching to a 1-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in eight appearances this season.
