Mariners' Kyle Lewis hits IL with 'small tear' in meniscus

The 2020 American League Rookie of the Year is enduring a frustrating spring.

Ahead of Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics, the Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Kyle Lewis on the injured list with a right knee issue that he suffered in Monday's win over Oakland while attempting to make a play on a fly ball in the eighth inning. Per Daniel Kramer of the MLB website, Lewis reported soreness in the knee following the incident and was replaced in the top of the ninth.

According to an ESPN piece, Seattle manager Scott Servais told reporters Lewis is dealing with a "small tear" in his right meniscus.

Lewis began the regular season on the IL due to a deep bone bruise in that same knee that cost him 17 games. He is batting .246 with five home runs, 11 RBI and 15 runs in 36 contests.

Back in 2016, he tore the ACL in his right knee.

In a corresponding roster move, Seattle recalled outfielder Taylor Trammell from Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners begin Tuesday night's action at 28-27 and in third place in the AL West standings, 2.5 games behind first-place Oakland.
