Mariners, OF Julio Rodriguez agree to monster contract extension

Julio Rodriguez has had a memorable rookie season with the Seattle Mariners.

The All-Star outfielder competed in (and nearly won) the Home Run Derby in July. "J-Rod" made history earlier this week when he became the fastest player in American League history to join the 20-20 club.

There aren't many young players in baseball with a brighter future than the 21-year-old.

On Friday, the Seattle Mariners agreed to a monstrous contract extension with Rodriguez that could keep the power-speed threat with the club well into his 30s.

The native of the Dominican Republic is, by most accounts, the current frontrunner for the AL Rookie of the Year award. Rodriguez enters play Friday with a .269/.328/.471 slash line to go with 20 home runs, 64 RBIs and 23 stolen bases across 420 at-bats covering 108 games.
